Magical Sex Detector

Believe it or not, this is a good thing. Let me explain ...

This "Magical Sex Detector" is pretty much a totally bogus program. If you look at the "source code" you learn that it does not even pay any attention to what you answer to the first two questions (the girl/witch/both one and the table dimensions one). It does actually care how you answer the "how many F's are there?" question and it will say you are a boy if you enter any number greater than or equal to 4. Otherwise, it will say you are a girl. So ... in a sense, the program is sexist in that it seems to be assuming girls are clueless when it comes to counting things like F's.

The original program was sexist in the opposite direction because when I took the test I ended up a girl. This annoyed me of course (although I did run the Red Dress all-women race the other day so maybe it knew about this ...). I looked at the code and discovered it called you a girl if you got 4 or more F's and a boy otherwise. So I just changed it to go the other way.

The actual number of F's is 6 (this is an old question and is interesting in its own right as often people miss seeing all the F's).

A more realistic program of course would be one where all the questions are well thought out and are based on deep research on how boys and girls actually think and how their thinking typically differs. In addition, all the answers given should be used and compared to answers that boys and girls would be expected to provide. Then, these answers would be tallied and used to predict boy or girl. This might be a very interesting project to take on.

My current interest has nothing whatsoever to do w/ all the above; the only thing I really cared about was how to figure out how to edit the original program (that called me a girl) and make it

1. call me a boy when I entered 6 for the F question

2. work when I "published" it on the server I use.

The latter issue had me stymied for about a day until I learned what was making it hang up after loading - had to do with a certain important file that was not allowed to have a space character in its name.

This I am sure is way more than you need or want to know about "the difference between boys and girls." But, I am sure that you know me well enough by now to realize I love to explain stuff when I finally understand it.

I so wanted to say something about how F'n amazing you are at explaining things, but didn't want to get censured ;)
