New Guinness Book of World Records Set

Using Max's 3-rod to 2-rod Extreme Tower Makeover spec', we are able to report a new Guinness Book of World Records has been set. The old record of 54 cm is history and has been replaced with a 59 cm record. You might think we'd be able to go higher than this but a few of the 1 cm x 1 cm x 1 cm cubes were needed to provide support on the way up and the very top section has only 2 "singletons" (Max's had more). I considered trying for a "singleton" column with 4 cubes (which would have made a 61 cm tower) but I had a record at 59 and of course 59 is prime so ... call it a day!

Your photo presents a bit of an optical illusion - the Prime 59 cm tower seems to be suspended in air over a painting that appears to be propped on an angle up against a radiator cover. How did you do all that, TcT? Is this complexity that which contributes to picture being record book worthy? Regardless, very interesting composition: one of Chas' lunar paintings, a Book of Nonsense, a flashlight (in case you get lost in the woods (in the painting), some stones and and and ---- IS THAT MAPLE SUGAR FUDGE IN THAT LITTLE WAX BAG!?!?!?!

Your observations are fascinating. Yup, the little paper bag holds maple sugar fudge, something I found in the "goodie bag" they gave me at the "Kingdom Challenge" 1/2 marathon. The "painting" the tower appears to be suspended over is a metal folding table. The tower, the fudge, Max's "gold-framed miniature" painting are keeping each other company on top of this table. Next to "A Book of Nonsense" is Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe." The entire collage is a snapshot of my life.

Technical aside: The "tree building" I mentioned in an off-blog email has to do with a tiny-c program I've been working on called tree.tc. I ran it against our November dictionary to produce the following report:

Well I finally have a foo minutes to sit down and congratulate you on an effort (actually it sounded like a two-try effort) in attempting to break the preevious record! Incredible effort I must say. Thanks for proving my theory! The tower is very well built. Nice job.

I have one question before I start my hitchhike to work (day 2 with a car eggnishun wich misteeriusly does not egggnite). I am curious about all those numbers that begin each line of Tobee translations. I looked at the tree.tc program but obviously not long enough to see what they might represent. Can you eelaberate?

Tinyc Tim said...

Thanks for asking. The numbers to the left of words are the "keys" to the "records" in the "tree."

As words are added to the "binary tree" they are assigned "keys." The first record that is added is assigned the "key" of 1. The second record that is added is assigned the "key" of 2.

So, a simpler way of answering your question (than that given in the opening paragraph of this comment) would be: the numbers on the left of the words tell you the order in which the words were added.

If you actually try to find the "record" that has the key of 1 and then try to find the "record" that has the key of 2 etc. you may recognize that "interpreter" was the earliest word added to the November dictionary and "ode" and "pilates" came next.

_interpreter_->~indranzlatur_
_ode_->~ohd_
_pilates_->~palateez_

The highest key is associated with the last word that was added to the dictionary. Let's see. The last word is currently ...

_exciting_->~eggsightin_

and, checking for its key, we find ... 122.

Works for me.

Before I begin (which is self-contradictory, but I digress)

1. I'm sorry you have to hitchhike to work - best of luck getting your car fixed - you're a real trooper to roll with the punches life offers you

2. your new words have been added - great to see "foo" finally making it in - as you know, "foo" is one of the most common names programmers give to a variable

3. as tree.tc currently is limited to "only" about 127 words (but I'm working to fix this, stay tooned) I've decided to start dec08.dic. Congrat's - your 6 new wurds are the inaugural entry

OK, now I'm going to "begin." I untranslated, translated etc. your comment and thought you and others would like to see a fully-Tobeeed (3 "e's" or 2?) poast.

Well Ize fynlee hav a foo minuets tah sit down and congratulate u awn an effort (actually id sounded lyke a two-try effort) in attempting tah break da preevious record! Incredible effort Ize must za. Tanx foah proving mye theory! Da tahwah iz vewy wel built. Nyce job.

I hav wun quezhun befoah Ize start mye hitchhike tah wuk (day 2 wid a cah eggnishun witch misteeriusly duz nutt eggnite). Ize am curious aboot awl doz numbahz dat begin each line ov Tobee translations. Ize lookeed at da tree.tc prograym butz obveeouzlee nutt long enuff tah zee wat dey might represent. Cayne u eelaberate?

To understand this comment, one would have to read the last comment by TcT in its full detail -- as I suppose is the nature of comments to comments, but I too digress.

First off, I DID get my car back on the road today -- after 2 days of hitching to work with good rides and weather. The battery was dead and the tire was flat cuz I could not get it to a gas station in time for air. I was not sure if it was a battery problem or an alternator problem or a starter problem. I began with tire, then the battery this morning. I jacked it up and replaced it with the spare -- which was low in air but had no leak. Yes!!! I then hitched .75 miles with bad battery in hand and got it checked at a gas station. "You got a dead one," they said. Then I hitched 1.5 miles to CAP Auto Parts in Marborrow (without carrying the dead one) and bought a $59 new one. Carried it home and got one ride 3/4 of the way with an architect who shared with me that her house was being foreclosed! She felt like doing a good deed! I had a good conversation with her. I installed the battery in my car and discovered the POSITIVE and NEGATIVE terminals were reversed in location and that this was due to a "different battery" having been used when the engine was rebuilt by "Ted" in Oregon! EXPLATIVE! Hitched 1.5 mile BACK to the auto parts (carrying the battery) place with NO ride and explained I was having "some trouble." A brilliant guy appeared out of the stock room and told me to come back there with him. "No problem!" he said. "What you need is a 58-60 battery like THIS one here." It looked good to me and it did have reversed terminals. I walked 1.0 miles home with one 1/2-mile ride and put the explative thing in the engine. Turned the key and .... NOTHING! Tried several times to improve the battery terminal connections with 7 different wrenches. One worked. But still no juice! With 99.98% hope lost, I made one last turn of the wrench and shut the hood to call it a day -- and to rely on a previous thought which involved calling for a tow truck to some body shop where my alternator and / or started could be checked for integrity. I turned the key in the ignition one last time just for the hell of it and EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH LIT UP WITH FULL ENGINE TURN-OVER. BINGO, WE HAVE IGNITION AND LIFT OFF -- THE CAR IS OPERATING! Four words came out of my mouth. "I can't believe it!" What a fine sound THAT was!

Pretty cool huh?

So, now I proceed to one other points found in your comment:

Thanks for adding my new words to the dictionary. It was fun to add a foo more. I also found it interesting to note you included a question about 3 "e's" or 2 in a word. I found it interesting because my last post included a new Tobee word that actually had 3 e's in it. It is found in my off-line email to you also. My "eee" word is found in the comments under the more recent "67" posting.

Speaking of multiple vowel usage, it sounds like you could use a AAA membership Max (and I don't mean sending an ardvark to AA (see Lebster's Dictionary, "conservation of letters"), we're talking American Automobile Association). It comes in very handy when your car breaks down.
