in the red!

Upon discarding the spend Turkey bouquet with mystery filler flowers, I discovered the remaining water was red - as in red food color - I can therefore deduct that the filler flower could be goldenrod that had been set in a container of red food colored water to achieve the special color effect. I used to do this with Queen Anne's Lace and celery stalks when I was a kid (really, I was once a kid!)

I have been meaning to comment on your discovery ever since you made it. I did ask both Linda and her sister Mary who both came up with statice but who both were very very unconfident they were right. I am somewhat familiar with statice as it was used by my Mom in a wedding I think.

I did a little research on statice (first hurdle was to spell it right) and found, like goldenrod, that it has many many species. I kind of gave up on trying to find a picture of statice that came close to your centerpiece filler.

The real interesting thing to me is how you discovered what it probably is when you tossed it out and spotted the red water. Noone, not Mary, not Linda, not you, imagined that "Man" got in the mix and messed around with food coloring. Only when you moved things around and noticed the unnatural state of things did you figure it out.

I'm trying to think of a similar experience I've had when a mystery went away when things got rearranged. I'm sure I've had plenty of them but I can't come up with one right now.

Interesting stuff.
